Dundee Design Parade

This year Dundee Design Festival embarks on an event like none other! The Dundee Design Parade is a celebration of the Year of Young People 2018 and of Dundee’s place in the global network of UNESCO Cities of Design.

The team at UNESCO City of Design Dundee are working with 31 youth groups and more that 500 young people from across Dundee in what will be a riot of colour, performance, music and design.

Cities around the globe have sent Dundee objects and messages of inspiration, to help the groups create their parade artworks. These include ceramics from Puebla, hockey sticks from Montreal, Bamboo from Wuhan, fabric from Nagoya and even a pair of dumbbells from Graz!

Some feedback from our groups!

‘We are absolutely delighted to be involved in the parade. For Dundee to be part of a group of global network alongside cities like Beijing, Singapore and Montreal makes this project even more exciting. Dundee is an incredible place to be at the moment and its great to involve our youth volunteers in as much as we can, with 2018 being Scotland’s Year of Young People what better way to celebrate than to showcase the creativity of Dundee’s young people.’ Sammy Keith, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers.

This design-focused street parade will celebrate design in all its forms and will take place on Saturday 26th May at 3pm, leaving from City Square (full route map to be announced). You can follow the progress of the youth groups and their artists and designers via our social media on Twitter and Instagram or on facebook.
