Dundee Design Parade 2019
Returning for its second year, Dundee Design Parade took place on Saturday 25 May 2019!
10 artists and designers delivered workshops with 440 participating young people based in Dundee aged 5-26 yrs. Each group selected a UNESCO Creative City from UNESCO City of Design Dundee’s international network to represent and draw their inspiration from. This was achieved by researching the culture, colours and stories of their city to design and create artworks which were worn/waved/carried during the Parade. Some examples included:
A giant elephant inspired by Jaipur’s annual Elephant Festival, tuk tuk food vans representing Phuket City of Gastronomy and handmade musical instruments/ a ‘Film crew’ inspired by Cities of Music and Film. To see all of the brilliant designs by the 22 groups that were involved, see our Flickr page. Film by Bonnie Brae Productions.
“Being involved in Dundee Design Parade has been a great way for young people to be as creative as they can, meet new friends which has been one of the best things to come out of this experience, work together to make such a brilliant design and show off what they have created on the day of the Parade. Young people have been involved in co-designing this from the very start; they have decided which city they want to do and discussed in groups what they would like their designs to look like.”
