Blog – NEoN Digital Arts Festival

Dundee’s annual NEoN Digital Arts Festival kicks off on Sunday 8th November with an exciting and eclectic programme of exhibitions, installations, audio & performance across the city of Dundee. This year’s theme takes influence from North East of North Asia and explores digital works from across Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan. Here are Andy’s thoughts on the event:

I’m really looking forward to going along to the NEoN Digital Arts Festival for the first time! There are too many interesting things going on to list every single one so I thought I would select some of my own highlights worth checking out:

Screen Asia

On Monday night I’ll be heading to Drouthy’s to check out their new event space and to attend the Neon event, Screen Asia. A cool evening featuring a curated selection of film and video works from Asian artists. There’s a wide range on offer from animation, digitally glitched short form works, a 3D masterpiece by Sun Xun (China) and a rare presentation of Shu Lea Cheang’s LoveMe2030. I’m really looking forward to this event – it’s not to be missed!

Pecha Kucha

One of the highlights of Dundee’s creative calendar, Pecha Kucha returns for Volume 13 – which sees NEoN team up with Creative Dundee to bring four international artists as well as local creatives up on stage to give us an intriguing insight into their work and lives. If you can’t make it along to the event itself you can follow what’s happening via #PKN_DND and Creative Dundee always upload videos of the speakers to

Workshop Wednesday

I can’t wait to check this out! This is a great opportunity to learn lots of new skills from this interactive skills sharing day which features pixel weaving, building your own handmade computer, creating music using black and white striped t-shirts and more! Artists involved include Taeyoon Choi & Ei Wada. Check out the programme for tickets here

My highlights are just a small selection of what is going on at this years festival. To find out about all their events, the artists taking part, venues and to get your tickets, check out NEoN’s website here
